BIMsmith Launches Detail Shelf to Help Architects Access Manufacturer Construction Details Faster
ELGIN, ILL, USA – June 1, 2020 – BIMsmith, the leading platform for building product research and BIM content, today announced the launch of Detail Shelf, a powerful new tool designed to streamline the way specifiers discover and use manufacturer-provided construction details.
Detail Shelf enables architects and engineers to browse, filter, preview, and download thousands of construction details – including Revit, DWG, and PDF formats – organized by robust metadata such as drawing scale and discipline. Rather than tying every detail to a product page, Detail Shelf introduces a flexible, many-to-many data model that reflects how real specifications and assemblies are created.
“Architects don’t think in terms of SKUs. They think in terms of assemblies and details,” said Benjamin Glunz, CEO of BIMsmith. “Detail Shelf brings structure and searchability to a category that has traditionally been fragmented and hard to navigate.”
The tool is completely free for architects and specifiers, and available now on the BIMsmith platform. Manufacturers can subscribe to participate, enabling their details to appear prominently within relevant searches and design workflows. Each detail can reference multiple products and each product can be linked across multiple detail types, providing rich contextual visibility throughout the specification process.
Detail Shelf also integrates seamlessly with the BIMsmith Revit Plugin, allowing users to insert details directly into project models without leaving the BIM environment.
To date, more than 10,000 details have been downloaded from BIMsmith across multiple categories, with more brands and details being added regularly.
